1962 - The year of the Cuban missile crisis and the year the governments of the world began to discover the existence of mutants.

1972 - The year the Viet Nam war came to an "official" end and the year the public discovered the existence of mutants.

1980 - The year of the Iran Hostage situation and the year the United States government began to believe mutants could be a trusted ally as a team lead by Hank McCoy and Scott Summers successfully rescues all hostages, without a single lose of life or injury.

The events of the First Class movies have happened but unlike many worlds, the X-Men's dream has worked. Humans trust mutants and look up to them as heroes. Well, mostly. There will always be those who mistrust, but it is a golden age of mutant & human trust. After twenty years as a liaison between the US government and mutants, and another five as the UN ambassador of Mutant Affairs, Hank McCoy has retired to teach at the Xavier Academy.

You might think dealing with first Washington, DC, and then the leaders of the World would have prepared Hank for dealing with teens whose mutations isolated them more than ever their peers, but you'd be wrong.
